Before test day
Behind-the-wheel tests are by appointment only. Book yours on the Folsom DMV page at dmv.ca.gov (323 E Bidwell A, Folsom, CA 95630). The DMV decides which offices give drive tests and when, so read the office page before you plan the last lessons around a date. Under 18, California also asks that the permit has been held at least six months and that the six hours of professional behind-the-wheel training are done first: that is our four-lesson teen program.
What to bring
- Your instruction permit and your appointment details.
- Under 18: the DMV certificate showing your six hours of professional training are complete.
- A car that is safe and legal for the test, with valid registration and proof of insurance (with test-day support, that is our car). The examiner checks lights, signals, horn and parking brake before you drive.
Test-day support with Stallion
Once your DMV appointment is booked, request test-day support with the date, the time and the office. The office confirms your readiness, the timing and an instructor before anything is booked. The lesson is on your appointment date and is planned to end in time for the test, no later than 30 minutes after your appointment time. It is a warm-up drive with your instructor that ends at the DMV office, and you take the test in the same dual-control car.
If you don't pass
California allows three attempts on one application. Under 18, you wait 14 days, not counting the test day, before the retake, and the DMV charges a retest fee (the current amount is on dmv.ca.gov). Bring the examiner's score sheet to your next lesson so the instructor can work on exactly what was marked.
