The short answer

From online course to driver’s license.

On the standard path, a driver under 18 needs driver education, six hours of professional behind-the-wheel training and 50 hours of supervised practice before the drive test. Driver education comes first: its DL 400C certificate is what the DMV asks for at the permit appointment, from 15½.

Driver education teaches the rules; driver training puts them into practice in a car. Once the permit is in hand, Stallion teaches the behind-the-wheel hours, with pickup in Folsom, El Dorado Hills and Granite Bay.

Step by step

Four steps to a California license, in order.

  1. 01

    Finish online driver education

Enroll on Stallion’s enrollment page (the Enroll button on this page) in the DMV-approved online course (course license E0159) and work through it at your own pace on a phone or a computer. The physical DL 400C is mailed to you when you finish; there is no emailed copy, so wait for it before the DMV appointment.

  2. 02

    Get the instruction permit

From 15½, make a DMV appointment and bring the DL 400C, proof of identity and residency, and a parent or guardian’s approval. Pass the vision and knowledge tests to get the permit.

  3. 03

    Six hours behind the wheel

Drivers under 18 need six hours of professional training. At Stallion that is four private 90-minute lessons in a dual-control SUV, with pickup at home or high school in Folsom, El Dorado Hills or Granite Bay.

  4. 04

    Practice, then the drive test

Log 50 supervised hours (10 at night), hold the permit at least six months, and take the DMV drive test at 16 or older.

After the course

Six hours behind the wheel, with pickup.

With the permit in hand, book the teen package: 4 private 90-minute lessons for $625.00 by card, or $599.99 paid cash or check to your instructor at the lesson, or Zelle. A licensed instructor picks the student up at home or high school, or you start at our office, and the actual minutes of each lesson are recorded.

Stallion School of Driving LLC holds California driving school license E0271; the office is at 705 Gold Lake Dr #210, Folsom, CA 95630, with visits by confirmed appointment only.
