In short

Teens under 18 finish driver education (online works), get the permit at 15½ or older, then complete six hours of professional training: at Stallion that is four private 90-minute lessons under license E0271.

  • Pickup is at home or high school in Folsom, El Dorado Hills and Granite Bay, or at our office by appointment.
  • Changes are free 48+ hours ahead, or within 60 minutes of booking, and online booking runs from 60 days out until 48 hours before a lesson.
Booking, paying, rescheduling or uploading the permit?How-to guides for parents, teens and adult learners are in the Help center.
PERMITS & LICENSINGHow do I get my driver's license in California?
On the standard path for drivers under 18: finish driver education and keep the physical DL 400C certificate, apply for the permit at 15½ or older with a parent or guardian’s approval and pass the vision and knowledge tests, hold the permit at least six months, complete six hours of professional training and 50 supervised hours (10 at night), then take the drive test at 16 or older. From 17½ the DMV may issue a permit without the certificates, but the drive test then waits until 18. Rules change, so check the current DMV guidance before you apply.
PERMITS & LICENSINGDo I need a permit before my first lesson?
Yes, before any driving starts, though you can book first and send the documents later. The original permit (or the original license for a licensed adult) and a matching photo or school ID are checked before the lesson begins. Enter the permit details (number, issue and expiration dates) in your account; a permit photo is optional but speeds up approval. Your instructor checks the original permit in person at lesson 1. On the usual teen path the instructor validates the permit after at least one hour of training; wait for that before practicing with family.
PERMITS & LICENSINGCan I take driver education online?
Yes. Our online drivers ed is a DMV-approved course (course license E0159), $49.95 one time, and it ends with the physical DL 400C certificate mailed to the student; behind-the-wheel lessons are booked here. You can start today on a phone or computer: enroll in online drivers ed.
PERMITS & LICENSINGHow do I log in to my online drivers ed course?
The course has its own login: log in to your course with the email address and phone number used when you enrolled (Find My Login on that page helps if you forgot them). Your account on this website is separate: it is for behind-the-wheel lessons.
PERMITS & LICENSINGWhat if my teen doesn’t pass the drive test?
Drivers under 18 wait 14 days before they can retest (California Driver Handbook, dmv.ca.gov). Use that time on the items the examiner marked, then request test-day support again for the retest date: a lesson right before the test, and the test in our car.
BOOKING & PICKUPWhere do lessons start?
Folsom, El Dorado Hills and Granite Bay: pickup at home or high school, or meet at our Folsom office. The office is at 705 Gold Lake Dr #210, Folsom, by confirmed appointment only. Drop-off can be another address in the same town.
BOOKING & PICKUPCan I book all four teen lessons at once?
Yes. The parent account can book every lesson of the package in one go, as openings allow, or one at a time.
BOOKING & PICKUPCan I change or cancel a lesson?
Yes, free from your account at least 48 hours before the start; the lesson credit comes back. Just booked? Any change or cancellation within 60 minutes of booking is also free, even for a lesson that starts sooner than 48 hours away. Between 24 and 48 hours, a documented emergency is reviewed; otherwise the lesson is used. Under 24 hours, a no-show, or missing or invalid documents at pickup use the lesson. Restoring a used lesson costs $95 cash / $99 card. Checkout shows the last free-change time for your lesson before you pay.
BOOKING & PICKUPWhat if Stallion has to cancel?
You get the lesson credit back in full and rebook for free. The same goes when the weather is unsafe or a car has a problem. Credit restored this way stays valid at least 90 days.
BOOKING & PICKUPCan I book lessons on back-to-back days?
No: lessons for the same student are at least 2 days apart, so there is time to practice between them. If a DMV date is close, email support@stallionfolsomdrivingschool.com and the office will see what the calendar allows.
BOOKING & PICKUPHow far ahead can I book?
Up to 60 days ahead. Online booking closes 48 hours before the lesson starts; for anything sooner, text or call 916-699-1116.
BOOKING & PICKUPWhat times are lessons?
Each lesson is 90 minutes, starting at 8 AM, 10:25 AM, 12:50 PM, 3:15 PM and 5:40 PM, with travel time kept free between lessons. The days and times still open show live on the booking page.
BOOKING & PICKUPI trained at another school. Can those hours count?
Possibly. Send the official records from the other school: its name, license and contact details, the instructor’s name and license, the lesson dates with exact minutes, and the student’s legal name as on the permit. Self-reported hours can’t count. Once the minutes are verified you pay only for the training still needed; unverified hours lead to a skills assessment instead.
PACKAGES & PAYMENTDo you give refunds?
A cancellation you choose stays a lesson credit for the same student. Validity: Teen and Adult and Two-lesson adult: valid 1 year from purchase; Test-day support: valid 90 days from purchase. Refunds are limited to duplicate or incorrect charges, a lesson we can’t reasonably rebook, or what the law or card networks require, and go back to the original payment method when possible. See the Customer Agreement.
PACKAGES & PAYMENTWhat packages are available?
Four-lesson teen package: $625.00 by card or $599.99 cash or Zelle (or $168.99 a lesson as you go); Private 90-minute adult lesson: $188.82 by card or $180.00 cash or Zelle; Adult two-lesson package: $377.64 by card or $360.00 cash or Zelle; Test-day support: $209.80 by card or $200.00 cash or Zelle, request only. The card price is the whole price, with no extra fee line.
PACKAGES & PAYMENTCan siblings share one package?
No. Each package belongs to one named student; a brother or sister gets a package of their own.
PACKAGES & PAYMENTAre DMV fees included?
No. The permit, license and any retest fees are paid to the DMV, not to Stallion. Current amounts are on dmv.ca.gov.
PACKAGES & PAYMENTCan I pay cash, check, Zelle, Venmo or Cash App?
Yes. Cash, check and Zelle pay the lower cash price, because they cost the school no fee. Card, Venmo and Cash App pay the card price. Pick "Pay in person" and pay cash or check to your instructor at the lesson before driving starts, or send Zelle, Venmo or Cash App (the booking page shows the handles and QR codes). Zelle, Venmo and Cash App payments must be made before the lesson starts or at the lesson, before driving. The four-lesson teen package can be paid in person too: choose "Pay in person" and pay the full offline package price to your instructor at the first lesson, before driving begins. Paying in person books the lesson right away, just like paying online: you pay your instructor at the lesson, before driving. Lesson restoration is $95 by cash, check or Zelle and $99 by card, Venmo or Cash App.
PACKAGES & PAYMENTIs paying in person booked right away?
Yes. Paying at the lesson, or now by Zelle, Venmo or Cash App, books the lesson straight away, the same as paying online (Zelle pays the cash price; Venmo and Cash App the card price). For an app payment we check that the money arrived and send the receipt; if it never arrives, you pay your instructor at the lesson. To book you only need the student’s name and date of birth, and a parent’s phone for a teen. The permit details (number and dates), address, school and emergency contact are added after booking and needed before the first lesson; we remind you 7, 3 and 2 days before. A permit photo is optional but speeds things up; the instructor checks the original permit in person at lesson 1.
LESSONS & VEHICLESHow long is each lesson?
90 minutes of private instruction for one student. 4 lessons make 6 hours, the professional training California asks of drivers under 18. The minutes delivered and the next steps are recorded after every lesson.
LESSONS & VEHICLESWhat do we bring to the first lesson?
The valid original permit (or license), a matching photo or school ID, and glasses or contacts if the permit lists them. Wear closed-toe shoes, and have the pickup address and a contact number confirmed in the account.
LESSONS & VEHICLESAre your instructors background-checked and insured?
Yes. 15+ years of combined experience · Background-checked instructors · Fully insured · Dual-brake training cars.
LESSONS & VEHICLESWhat cars do you use?
Dual-control SUVs marked with the school name and license E0271, with the instructor’s brake on the passenger side. Our training SUVs — 2025 Mazda CX-50 and 2025 VW Atlas Cross Sport models — earned IIHS Top Safety Pick+, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s highest safety award. Sources: IIHS · 2025 Mazda CX-50, IIHS · 2025 VW Atlas Cross Sport.
LESSONS & VEHICLESAre the cars automatic or manual?
Automatic, with the instructor’s brake on the passenger side.
ADULTSCan adults take lessons?
Yes: private 90-minute lessons for adults with a California permit or license, booked from the live calendar and managed in your own account. One lesson is $188.82 by card or $180.00 cash or Zelle. A two-lesson adult package is offered on the booking page when it is available.
ADULTSWhat is test-day support?
One 90-minute lesson right before your DMV drive test, on the appointment day, and then the test in our dual-control car. It is booked by request: the office first confirms the student is ready, the DMV appointment time and a free instructor. Make the DMV appointment first. A no-show or a cancellation under 24 hours uses the lesson. Pay online, or in person to your instructor before driving. It is valid 90 days from purchase.
ADULTSCan we use your car for the DMV road test only?
Yes, through test-day support: a 90-minute lesson right before the test, then you take the test in our car. The car comes with that lesson, not on its own. Book the DMV appointment first, then request test-day support for that date; the office confirms the student is ready and the timing.
ADULTSHow do I reach you?
Email support@stallionfolsomdrivingschool.com for booking help, payments, documents, transfers and test-day requests. The phone, 916-699-1116, is for same-day issues with a booked lesson. Open every day, 8 AM–8 PM (Pacific).
BOOKING & PICKUPCan a parent ride along?
Yes, if space allows or the student is more comfortable, especially in early lessons.
BOOKING & PICKUPCan I book for my child or spouse?
Yes. Add them as a student on your account and choose them when booking.
BOOKING & PICKUPWhat if I need to change the pickup address?
Change it in your account up to 4 hours before the lesson. After that, the approved location stands and the late-cancellation rule applies if the student can’t use it.
BOOKING & PICKUPWhat if we run late?
Up to 10 minutes late, the lesson is extended so you still get the full 90 minutes. From 11 to 25 minutes, the first 10 minutes are extended and the rest is recorded for a paid makeup. More than 25 minutes late is a no-show and the lesson is used. Actual minutes are recorded; minutes not driven are never counted.
