Six steps from driver education to the provisional license, each with what the DMV asks and where Stallion fits. Your age decides the path, so check the DMV pages linked under each step before you apply.
- Any time before the permit
Driver education
What the DMV asks: Complete California driver education. When you apply for the permit, the DMV asks for proof: the completion certificate (DL 400C), or enrollment in an approved integrated driver education and training program.
How Stallion helps: Driver education teaches the rules; our lessons put them into practice in a car. Stallion Drivers Ed Academy explains the online course, which ends with a physical DL 400C in the mail.

The instruction permit
What the DMV asks: Apply at 15½ or older. Under 18 you need a parent or guardian’s approval, the application, the required documents and fee, a vision exam, a photo and the knowledge test. From 17½ the DMV may issue a permit without the course certificates, but the drive test then waits until 18.
How Stallion helps: You can book a lesson before sending documents. Before any driving, the current original permit is checked; the instructor validates it after at least one hour of training.

Six hours with a licensed driving school
What the DMV asks: The standard under-18 path includes six hours of professional behind-the-wheel training.
How Stallion helps: Four private 90-minute lessons with pickup at home or high school, and the actual minutes and next steps recorded after each one.

50 hours of supervised practice
What the DMV asks: At least 50 hours with a California-licensed driver, 10 of them at night. The supervisor is generally 25 or older; a parent, guardian, spouse or licensed instructor can be younger.
How Stallion helps: The lesson notes name the skills to practice, so family practice repeats what the instructor assigned rather than adding new things.

The DMV drive test
What the DMV asks: You can take the drive test at 16 or older, once you have held the permit for at least six months and finished the training and practice hours.
How Stallion helps: Test-day support: one lesson right before your DMV appointment and the test in our car, by request, once readiness and timing are confirmed.

The provisional license
What the DMV asks: Provisional rules apply: no driving from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., and no passengers under 20 unless a licensed driver 25 or older is in the car. The DMV lists the exceptions.
How Stallion helps: More practice later, on the freeway or at night? Book a single lesson whenever you like.
